Procedure for Holy Communion
Faith Lutheran Church
April 26, 2026
The Sacrament of the Altar holds significant importance for the Church, as it strengthens faith, unites the people of God, nurtures fellowship with Christ, commemorates His Sacrifice, and reaffirms the New Covenant in His blood.
Because we receive Jesus in Communion, through him we also receive forgiveness of sin, life, and salvation (Small Catechism: The Sacrament of the Altar). As such, this holy meal is to be approached with an appropriate sense of respect and reverence. To ensure the orderly and respectful reception of Holy Communion, Faith Lutheran Church observes the following procedure:
1.Beginning with those seated at the front and proceeding toward the rear of the sanctuary, congregants on each side will approach the Altar as directed by the ushers, filling both sides as space permits. Please be sure to wait for the direction of the ushers before approaching the Altar.
2. Upon reaching the Altar, the pastor will move to the center of the railing and say, “Welcome to the table of the Lord.” At this time, please kneel at the rail as you are able.
3. Remain kneeling until all have received and consumed the bread and wine. The pastor will then return to the center of the railing and dismiss all with the words, “Depart in Peace.”
4. You may then stand and return to your seat via the side aisle.
All who are baptized and believe that our Lord Jesus Christ gives His true Body and Blood for the forgiveness of sins are invited to the Lord’s Table.
“Come to the Lord’s Table. Receive the gifts of God for the people of God.”
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Daniel Thompson
